DG HOME is currently searching for a Secretary/ Administrative Assistant, that will have the following tasks:

• Monitor the Head of Unit’s incoming messages (mail, e-mail, telephone) and ensure appropriate attribution and follow-up.
• Compile and follow the timely preparation of briefings, monitor deadlines and workflow (e.g. inter-service consultations)
• Organize meetings with external stakeholders: book rooms, invite participants, check and send the agenda, compile folders of working documents, draw up minutes, manage and follow up on the reimbursement of travel costs for experts, use of ABAC workflow.
• Provide general administrative support according to incoming needs and requests (e.g. MIPS, SYSPER, ARES, GESTEM, CHAP, POETRY)
• Recording incoming and outgoing correspondence using the Commission's archiving software.
• Manage translation requests using the Commission’s translation software.

Interpol "Don't Risk it!" campaign: look after your travel document

As part of Project IDEA, funded by the European Union’s Internal Security Fund – Police, Interpol, together with EU Member States, launched the Don't Risk it! campaign. Started in December 2019, the campaign aims at raising awareness on:

• Keeping ID and travel documents safe
• Reporting missing or stolen documents
• Reporting the retrieval of a previously lost or stolen travel document and not using such a document to cross the state border.

Open call for interest to participate in the 6th European Migration Forum on 2-3 June 2020

The European Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee are launching an open call for those interested to participate in the 6th meeting of the European Migration Forum, which will take place in Brussels on 2-3 June 2020.

The European Migration Forum is a platform for dialogue between civil society and European institutions on issues related to migration, asylum and integration of non-EU migrants.

The theme of the 6th edition of the Forum is “Making integration work: towards a more inclusive European society”.

European research & innovation to support secure and efficient EU external borders

On 6th of February 2020, the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Commission and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) co-signed dedicated Terms of Reference, with the aim to improve the collaboration on research and innovation relevant for EU border security.

This action is crucial to ensure that research funded by the EU on the security and management of external borders provides state of the art technologies and solutions to the European and Member States’ border and coast guards. 

Furthermore, the collaboration with Frontex will allow the Commission to better plan investments on research and innovation in this area, and ensure that research projects obtain results that are in line with the needs identified by the European Border and Coast Guard community.

Over €230 million available for security research projects

A call for project proposals on security research across 16 different topics is open until 22 August 2019. It makes available €233.36 million in total for projects working on protecting the infrastructure of Europe, increasing the disaster resilience of societies, fighting crime and terrorism, securing external borders, as well as improving digital security and data protection.

The proposals that have passed the evaluation will be known by mid-January 2020, and the grant agreements with the project teams should be signed by end of April 2020.

Commission reports on the risks of investor citizenship and residence schemes in the EU

On 23 January 2019, the European Commission presented for the first time a report about the risks of investor citizenship and residence schemes operated by several EU Member States.

The report is mainly aimed to identify such risks these schemes imply for the EU Member States, especially in connection with money laundering, tax evasion, corruption and security. 

In this field, lack of transparency and collaboration among Member States critically enhance the issue.
