In recent discussions arising from the DSG Check-point review with NASA, a few technical areas have been identified for detailed investigations, laboratory tests, or screening assessments, aiming to reduce the mass and complexity of the potential ESA elements, and in the long term, for a more sustainable architecture for human exploration elements beyond LEO, and not necessarily the DSG.Due to the large potential benefits in terms of reduced mass, power, spares and complexity that the availability of a suitable coolant for a single-loop active thermal control (vs. a dual-loop) can offer for future human exploration missions, the Agency is interested in mapping existing liquids for this application and perform screening of a set of relevant thermophysical properties, not readily available from literature. The single-loop system forms an alternative for the dual-loop system, which is currently envisioned for the targeted vehicles and missions. The single-loop system is meant to be a single-phase loop, i.e. no two-phase evaporator/condenserconfiguration.
