Introductory Course to Space Sciences for Primary School Teachers

on 02 July 2018

Between 24 – 27 July 2018, the European Space Education Resource Office— Romania (ESERO Romania) is organising an introductory course to space sciences. The course is addressed to primary education teachers and will take place at the “Belvedere guest house” in Cinciș, Hunedoara County. The deadline for registration is 15 July 2018.

The course aims to provide participants with the necessary knowledge to attract primary school students to STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) using the fascination of space. Topics related to space exploration will be addressed, such as space missions, landing on a comet, life in space, or becoming an astronaut.

The course lasts four days and takes place at the “Belvedere guest house” in Cinciș, Hunedoara County. The training, the accommodation in a double or triple room and the meals for the period 24 – 27 July 2018 are free of charge. The travel from participants’ home town to Cinciş (situated at 10 km from Hunedoara) and back falls into the responsibility of the participants.

The course is addressed to primary school teachers and schoolmasters in Romania (grades I to IV), as well as to teachers at children clubs or afterschools with activity for the age groups corresponding to the 1st to 4th grades.

Candidates must demonstrate competence and interest in disseminating the knowledge and experience gained during the course to their pupils as well as to other teachers in their home town, to attract as many pupils as possible to astronomy, space science and technology and STEM. The selection of participants will also take into account the most equitable geographical distribution within the eight development regions of Romania.

Teachers wishing to apply will have to fill a participation form online by 15 July 2018, which will include the motivation to participate, including previous experience (where applicable) and how the candidate wishes to pass on the knowledge acquired during the course to pupils and colleagues. The form can be accessed by clicking on Cinciș introductory course to space activities and technologies.

Candidates will be informed about the results of the selection in due time. Selected applicants who accept to participate at this course must sign a commitment to reimburse the course if they decide to not participate in the end, as the course is funded by ESERO Romania.
